Music Therapists and Educators Celebrate Music in Schools Month

“Music Connects Us” is This Year’s Theme

Salem, VA, March 27, 2018

It’s the 33rd Annual Music in Our Schools Month sponsored by the National Association for Music Education.This is the time of year when educators dedicate themselves to bringing music into the lives of students in schools and communities.

busy beatsThis year’s theme, “Music Connects Us,” focuses on how music has a profound and positive effect on students and encourages learning.

busy beatsAt Easterseals UCP, the Busy Beats program in Salem, Virginia is a preschool aged music group focusing on children’s development. Music Therapist, Hope Key, utilizes developmental screenings to track children’s social, cognitive, motor and language development.With her musical talents and her Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC) background, Hope uses instruments and activities to help students’ development.

Twice a month Hope visits G.W. Carver Elementary School in Salem and works with children with special needs.She is thrilled to see children improve in many areas due to her visits including participation in music therapy and social skills.

Hope said, “Music therapy is a fun and exciting way for children of all ages and abilities to engage in learning without it feeling like work. We can target specific goals or skills while having fun!”
