NEW CASTLE, VA, April 14, 2016
Tucked away in the woods along the Blue Ridge Mountains is a special camp. Camp Easter Seals UCP offers a one-of-a-kind experience to campers with special needs.
Camp Easter Seals, an American Camp Association accredited overnight camp for children and adults with disabilities, allows campers to meet friends, learn independence, build self-esteem, and enjoy the outdoors. The camp, established in 1957 in Craig County, Virginia, has helped more than 400 individuals enjoy summer camp every year. This is a home away from home for individuals with special needs.
Alex Barge, Camp Easter Seals UCP Director says, “It is neat to see campers grow in confidence and social skills. It is also impressive to see staff grow from timid, nervous kids into confident selfless adults.”
Campers as well as trained staff and volunteers come from near and far to ride horses, climb a rock wall, canoe down Craig’s Creek, swimming, arts and crafts, and laugh with new friends. Meanwhile, families of campers can rest assure their loved ones are in good hands while they get a break.
Sessions for Summer 2016 begin on May 29 and end on August 6. Applications are available on our website at http://www.easterseals.com/NCVA/our-programs/camping-recreation/.
"Camp is a time to be with other kids with the same disabilities as me and not be judged. I can be myself!" said Haley, a camper.
Camp Easter Seals UCP is located in New Castle, about 45 minutes from Roanoke, along the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s a beautiful location where special dreams come true.
