Nationwide Easter Seals celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the American Disabilities Act. It was a milestone as the legislation in 1990 prohibited discrimination against individuals with disabilities. This opened up stories of progress and ongoing goals.
14th Annual Eggstravaganza was a huge success. The new venue, Dover Hall Estate in Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, was a first. Thanks to sponsors and participants, the Eggstravaganza raised $145,000 for the programs at Easter Seals UCP. Save the Date for this year's Eggstravaganza: April 23, 2016. More info.
Avril Lavigne continued her scholarship program, CAMP S.T.A.R.S (Summer Time Avril Rock Stars), provided funding for a week of camp to 50 campers in need. Her unique scholarship brought smiles and gave 10 campers a one-of-a-kind camp experience at Camp Easter Seals UCP in Virginia.

Huge challenges for Walk With Me Charlotte as flooding cancelled the walk in 2015. But thanks to supporters, volunteers and sponsors for participating (post flood) in the first-ever virtual Walk With Me Charlotte! Certainly, an example of team work.
The Great Glow Run in New Bern, N.C. raised $25,000 by glowing hard. Countless hours and plenty of glow sticks and glow gear were put into this event, which helped support the programs for children and adults with disabilities. (Coming up: Great Glow Run is scheduled for April 2, 2016)
The staff at the Easter Seals UCP Children’s Development Centers continued to dedicate time, experience and love to the special needs children. The success stories of the boys and girls at the centers are heartwarming including Jalea, taking her first steps. The smallest gains are huge milestones.
Special Olympics gave the individuals we serve in North Carolina and Virginia new opportunities, challenges and a chance for the gold. We congratulate our stars including Starr, Ben, Cammy, Eddie and Sam!
Cheers to our incredibly dedicated volunteers who have given their time during our Volunteer Days in North Carolina and Virginia. North Carolina Easter Seals UCP staff was instrumental in launching the Veterans Count program. Veterans Count is a charity and assistance program for veterans and their families. Stay tuned for more info on Veterans Count and Operation Family Caregiver in 2016.
Luggage 4 Love, a program geared to helping foster children transition better. Rather than transporting their prized possessions in trash bags, Luggage 4 Love provides children with slightly used or new suitcases and duffel bags. In one year, Luggage 4 Love collected more than 1500 bags.
Sensitive Santa Charlotte and Sensitive Santa Richmond events encouraged new experiences during the holiday season. For many children and families, a visit to Santa was impossible due to noise and crowds. Easter Seals UCP and generous sponsors brought smiles, happiness and HoHoHo back into many lives.
A special thanks to staff, volunteers, sponsors, and participants who made events a success, gave their time and money, supported programs at Easter Seals UCP, and gave families much-needed hope. Looking forward to 2016: a year of continued growth and progress.
