Ella Campbell has a huge heart for helping people living with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities. For ten years she has been helping individuals develop job skills through the Easterseals UCP Employment Services program funded by the Innovations Waiver.
Ella was recognized with a Ten Year Anniversary Award by Easterseals UCP CEO Luanne Welch. With tears of joy in her eyes, Ella accepted the award while she was assisting 53-year-old Willie who works at the Wendy’s in New Bern.
After presenting the award, Luanne said, “Ella truly represents the passion and commitment of our front line employees as they help adults like Willie live his best possible life.”
For two hours each day, Ella helps Willie improve maintenance skills such as clearing tables, picking up trash, and cleaning bathrooms.
Bill Barrow, Employment Services Program Supervisor, said, “Ella is simply amazing. She takes on any case and never says “no.” Her smile, her kindness and her dedication make her special.”
He describes Willie as an endearing and enjoyable man to be around. “Wendy’s plays really good contemporary music and Willie enjoys that. He’s often seen and heard around the restaurant humming and singing while he works. It’s clear that Willie is happy to be working and singing!”
