The Pizza Inn Fundraiser was not only about serving customers and raising money, but it was an amazing opportunity for the participants of the E.M.P.O.W.E.R. Adult Program in Hertford County to work in a restaurant.
The Easterseals UCP E.M.P.O.W.E.R. program sponsored by Trillium Health Resources provides children with intellectual developmental disabilities with afterschool and summer camp activities. Meanwhile, in Ahoskie, an adult morning program works on skills and socialization.
During the Pizza Inn Fundraiser, participants waited tables, washed dishes, put out clean dishes on the buffet, fixed beverages and cleaned tables. Sarah-Grace Britton, Director of the E.M.P.O.W.E.R. Program in Hertford County said, “Watching the joy and determination on my adult clients’ faces brought tears to my eyes!”
Sarah-Grace witnessed so much progress in that one night including confidence and determination to do a good job. She said, “Customers from that night are still complimenting us whenever they into our group around town.” This group of hard working adults were thrilled to raise $957!
