We Are Our Neighbor's Caregiver
One in six children lives with a developmental disability. One in five teenagers is living with a mental health condition, while one in five adults will experience mental illness this year. These realties drive us to expand and strengthen our programs so that families and individuals are able to receive the care that they need to thrive. Our model is based on our Direct Service Professionals (DSPs) serving as caregivers with unwavering commitment to those we support.
Easterseals UCP’s team of 1,300+ Direct Service Professionals work with people experiencing intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. These caregivers play a vital role in the lives of those they support. They often work one-on-one with individuals every day, 365 days a year, to build and improve upon daily living skills, develop social skills and increase independence.
In addition, we support family caregivers directly and indirectly through each and every one of the services we offer. Our programs work to improve the family and home lives for individuals living with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. We also provide out-of-home care for children and adults in crisis and create opportunities for our neighbors to grow and thrive in their daily lives.
A few examples of how our programs are enhanced by our caregivers:
- Autism services help individuals communicate more effectively with their caregivers and their family members to improve daily interactions.
- EMPOWER Adult Wellness and Recreation provides adult day programs for people individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the work of our onsite caregivers. This enables family caregivers to work outside of the home, run errands and take care of themselves.
- Our Foster Care team recruits, trains and supports foster parents and families who provide direct care to children in need of out-of-home-care.
