How We Can Help

Children and adults with disabilities and special needs find the highest-quality services designed to meet their individual needs when they come to Easterseals. Our multidisciplinary team helps each person overcome obstacles to independence and reach his or her personal goals. Easterseals also includes families as active members of any therapy program and offers the support families need.

Services start with a doctor's referral.

Outpatient Medical Rehabilitation and Pediatric Therapy

We help clients with developmental, physical, and sensory challenges through our outpatient medical rehabilitiation services, including physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.

Clients may have minor developmental delays (learning, speech, fine and gross motor skills) or more severe diagnoses such as muscular dystrophy, neurological disorders, or cerebral palsy. Challenges may be related to a birth condition, injury, developmental delay, or illness. Whether needing assistance with walking, sitting, dressing, talking, feeding, writing, or other daily living tasks, our clients gain skills for greater independence.

Medical Services: Specializing in the Care of Individuals with Special Needs

As a pediatric physiatrist, our medical director Dr. Ellen Kitts has a specific knowledge of children with developmental differences, physical medicine and rehabilitation. The medical services department provides specialized medical care and training to clients, both children and adults, who have loss of functions.

Autism Diagnosis and Treatment

For more than 20 years, Easterseals has been diagnosing autism spectrum disorder (ASD), under the direction of Dr. Ellen Kitts. During this time, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of people with autism that Easterseals serves. In keeping with our mission to create solutions that change lives, Easterseals assembled a multidisciplinary team of professionals to not only diagnose autism but help the families get the answers and services that they need.

Applied Behavior Analysis

Easterseals, in partnership with Kendall Behavioral Solutions, is pleased to offer applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy. ABA is the data-driven science of learning and behavior. It uses evidence-based best practices to improve behavior, attention span, focus, social skills, memory, and academics. ABA uses positive reinforcement in a way that can be measured to bring about meaningful behavior change. Its primary application is for children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
