Meet Ryan - Our 2017 Adult Ambassador

Ryan 230

Ryan is a radiant and very happy young man, twenty-five years old.  For the past four years Ryan has been employed full time at Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania in the Vocational Development Program. Prior to his graduation in 2012 from the North Hills School District, Ryan attended Easter Seals in the afternoon hours as part of a work skills program.

Ryan enjoys working, and is proud of what he accomplishes at work.  His parents, Mike and Julie, advise that Easter Seals is a perfect fit for him. It is a place where Ryan feels comfortable and a place where he is safe.  The staff works well with and accepts Ryan. His parents feel his supervisor Ben Fresch is a great influence for him and Ryan thinks Ben walks on water.

Ryan was introduced to music in Junior High School by his music teacher, Heide Kohne.  He participated in several talent shows at school singing (and playing) Country Roads and Halleluiah. His fellow students at the school gave him a standing ovation after his performances.  They included and accepted Ryan as one of their own, treating him with great respect.  Ryan attended his Senior Prom and had a full dance schedule!

Ryan loves music.  He can play a guitar, banjo and keyboard fairly well, even though he cannot read music. Ryan listens to music constantly and has a respectable music library.  He has been to concerts featuring major artists which he really enjoys.  His favorite artist is Taylor Swift and he has been to both of her Red and 1989 concerts at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.  Darlene Malzone who is the Senior Director of Adult Programs at Easter Seals offered that Ryan is the best air guitarist ever!

Ryan likes to vacation and his favorite spot is Walt Disney World in Florida.  Each year the family makes the trip to Disney and of course Ryan’s favorite attraction is The Country Bear Jamboree.  During one trip he had an opportunity to meet and greet all of the bears and got several photographs with them!

Ryan is a very lovable and unique person.  He loves his family and cares deeply for his friends, coworkers and for the people he knows.  He recently became and uncle, and really loves his nephew, Nicholas.

Ryan does not realize or acknowledge his disability and considers himself just another person. He is a wonderfully delightful person to know and be around.  He tries hard and his accomplishments are commendable.  He is a truly great person who has a heart of gold that shines and makes our days brighter.   He is unique..... he is our Ryan.
