Easterseals Western and Central PA presents:
Speakeasy – A Night of Spirits – a Fun-raising Event
Taking the roaring 20’s by storm while changing the tide on how we view disabilities!

Pittsburgh, PA, February 2022:  Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania (ESWCPA) is taking the Roaring 20s by storm with a historic and entertaining night. Join us for Speakeasy – A Night of Spirits, Thursday, March 24th at an undisclosed venue in one of the Pittsburgh Area’s Historic Neighborhoods. In keeping with the secrecy of speakeasys gone by, the location will be disclosed one week prior to the event.

Speakeasy – A Night of Spirits is a fundraising event to help individuals of all ages who face physical, mental, emotional, and/or intellectual disabilities and their families in our local communities. Unless you have a time machine, visiting a real speakeasy is something you won't be able to tick off your bucket list -- at least not one that illegally serves booze in a prohibition-era America. While you may never know the thrill of drinking questionable bathtub gin underground with the constant threat of a police raid, you can enjoy an evening that gives a nod to an era of hidden entrances, secret passwords and Pittsburgh’s many beer barons. Guests will take a step back in time and will enjoy live period music, engage with various thematic activities, enjoy auctions and raffles, food, cash bar and tarot readings. Joining us will be Paul Martino, news anchor retired from KDKA, as our emcee for the evening.  Providing the musical entertainment for the evening will be Pittsburgh’s own Jessica Lee, Mark Strickland and Hugo Cruz.  This is a great opportunity for attendees to go back in time, enjoy the roaring 20’s all while helping those with disabilities and other special needs to achieve independence and reach their full potential.

Easterseals works for those one in four individuals with one or more disabilities in America.  Anyone can be affected by disability. The outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the important preemptive measures to contain it has had a significant impact on Easterseals communities across the state. Given that COVID-19 presents a high risk to people with disabilities, older adults, and others with complex medical conditions, it is imperative that Easterseals works in innovative ways to lead the way for those individuals to have full access, equity and inclusion to healthcare, education and employment (see video - https://youtu.be/oBxIIvNXcQE).  Lori McCann, Vice President of Development, states, “Many people depend on our services, particularly during these trying times.  Easterseals’ recent COVID-19 Study showed that people with disabilities are four times more likely to be treated poorly while receiving care.  That is why Easterseals is here.  To provide life-changing services not only during COVID times but, always.  And, we rely on our donors and partners to help make these important programs accessible and inclusive.”  For 103 years, Easterseals has been and will continue to be the indispensable resource for that community.
