Easter Seals Western and Central Pennsylvania - Franklin Division hosts many events in the Venango County community for people with developmental disabilities, and other special needs who reside within the county. These events include, but are not limited to, family and group events, bowling, skating, holiday parties, T-ball, picnics at community parks, etc. Each year, we also have the honor of being invited to Big Uncle Day, which is hosted by and held at the Venango County Coon & Fox Club.
The Community Socialization program hosts two dances for adults. The first dance is in October with a friendly Halloween theme (costumes optional). The second dance is in February with varying themes (winter, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick’s, etc.). DJ services are graciously donated by Rick Cardy, who has been a long time supporter of the Easter Seals organization. The consistency between these two dances is that all who participate have a great time. This program is designed to promote socialization by strengthening current friendships and by allowing for new ones to be made.
Get into the spirit of the holidays! Festive parties are held for the Christmas and Easter holidays. Separate parties are held for the children and the adult participants. Highlights for the children include sharing their “wish list” with Santa Claus, singing Christmas Carols, and the Aquatic Easter Egg hunt, yes it’s in the water! The adult holiday parties include crafts, bingo, sing-a-longs and Christmas cookies!
Either to kick off the summer season or to wind it down, there’s nothing better then an enjoyable picnic with food, activities and good company! We supply the main dish and drinks, and participants are asked that each family or group brings a dish to share. Together, we enjoy a great day of food, fun and friends.
Each summer, a combined fieldtrip is planned for both our children and adult groups. Past events have included Conneaut Lake Park, Pittsburgh Zoo, and Waldameer Park. Several hundred people are in attendance for this wonderful event. The event is designed to provide opportunities for individuals and their families to have a fun-filled day. Whether with family or with friends, it’s sure to be a good time.
Play ball! The T-Ball Program is a six-week program that meets twice a week in June and July. This Program includes 2 children’s teams and 2 adult teams (played separately). T-Ball is very similar to baseball or softball, with the exception that the ball is hit from a large “T” rather than thrown by a pitcher. Participants do have the choice to have the ball thrown to them if they wish. Volunteers work with each player to maximize independence on the field by providing guidance and assistance as needed. Whether it be coaching or providing more specialized assistance the volunteers help to make this one of the most anticipated program events held throughout the year. Easter Seals is proud of the local businesses that sponsor our T-Ball teams. The sponsorship of these businesses allow for all players to be awarded a T-shirt and ball cap.
