Easterseals Southern California (ESSC) – which assists more than 10,000 people with disabilities – has appointed Dr.Barsam Kasravi, MD, MPH, MBA, to its Board of Directors.
Dr. Kasravi, Playa Vista, Calif., is the Chief Medical Officer and Regional VP of California’s Medicaid, County and State Programs with Anthem Blue Cross. Over the past decade at Anthem, Dr. Kasravi has had extensive experience with California’s most complex and underserved patient population, including seniors and persons with disabilities; patients with behavioral health challenges; and children with various disabilities and health concerns hoping to address their physical and social determinants of health. He has also volunteered nationally and internationally in South Africa, South America and in Louisiana with the disaster of Katrina, providing medical care to vulnerable populations.
Dr. Kasravi graduated from the UCLA School of Medicine, where he was chief of the Los Angeles Salvation Army Homeless Clinic. He completed his residency as Chief Resident at the UCLA/Kaiser Woodland Hills Family Medicine Programs. After his training, he was one of two physicians in California to be accepted into the California Endowment Fellowship in Health Policy at Harvard University, where he received his Masters in Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health with a focus in health management and policy. He subsequently worked at Blue Cross in Massachusetts for two years before returning to Los Angeles to work at Anthem Blue Cross. Dr. Kasravi also received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
