With a shared vision of supporting veterans and their families, Easterseals Southern California (ESSC) is one of only 45 local organizations selected in 2017 to receive a charitable grant from The Boeing Company, increasing its 2016 donation to ESSC by half.
As part of Boeing’s recently announced commitment of over $50 million in grants to more than 500 nonprofit organizations around the globe — including a three-year commitment of more than $25 million in support of veterans' recovery and rehabilitation programs and transition services – ESSC has been selected to receive a portion of funds dedicated to supporting veterans and their families.
The $75,000 grant will help support ESSC’s Bob Hope Veterans Support Program, to which Boeing has donated a total of $180,000 since 2015. Through this program, ESSC is able to provide one-on-one employment services, as well as referrals to other resources, to meet the unique needs of military personnel and veterans transitioning out of the military into a civilian job, starting their own small business or pursuing higher education. Since launching in 2014, the program has served more than 900 veterans and families with employment support and referrals to other resources, placing 525 into civilian positions and 73 pursuing education degrees. Free to veterans, who do not need to have a disability to participate, the program was launched with a generous seed grant from The Bob Hope Legacy.
The investment builds on Boeing's commitment to enhancing and contributing to the social fabric of our world and is geared towards programs that develop tomorrow’s innovators through investment in 21st-century skills and supporting military veterans and their families transitioning into the civilian workforce.
"We aspire to be a top performer in every area of our business, and that includes leading in the communities where our employees and their families live and work," said Dennis Muilenburg, Boeing chairman, president and chief executive officer. "By harnessing our teammates' unique skills and passion for giving, our professional networks and partnerships, and our financial resources, we will inspire the dreamers and doers of tomorrow and drive positive, lasting change in our communities across the globe."
Said Mark Whitley, president & CEO of ESSC, “We are honored to be among the charities selected to benefit from Boeing's generous annual global giving campaign. Through partnerships such as these, we at Easterseals Southern California are able to provide much-needed support and resources for local veterans who have bravely served our country."
