Senior Day Services Opens in Redondo Beach

Senior Day Service

Easter Seals has launched a new Senior Day Service in the South Bay.  The service, targeted for seniors with memory impairments, Alzheimer’s and dementia is located in Redondo Beach.   This is the second Senior Service to be offered in addition to the organization’s long-running program in Brea.

The new service is the result of Easter Seals taking over the already established South Bay Adult Care Center.   According to Program Director Kim Devine, the center was on the verge of closing due to a decrease in the number of clients after insurance no longer covered socially-oriented programming.   While the center always served private-pay clients too, there were not enough of them to keep it going financially.

“We hope to model our service after what Easter Seals is doing in Brea.  We want to have a blended model of people who are regional center adult day seniors along with seniors who are private pay,” Kim said.

“I’m very excited that we have the opportunity to expand our services to seniors in the Los Angeles area,” Dee Prescott, VP, Adult Services said.   “This service supports families to keep an aging parent, spouse or other family member living at home instead in an institution.  This service is so important to families who have to work and still need keep their family members safe and cared for during the day.”

The Senior Day Service offers a variety of activities including music, table games, and crafts along with physical exercise. “We do activities that promote interaction and that help keep people with memory loss engaged. The activities are person centered and targeted to whatever level a senior is working at,” Kim said.
