Customized Employment

WorkFirst Customized Employment assists individuals in securing a job tailored to their unique talents. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Customized Employment may include employment developed through job carving, self-employment or entrepreneurial initiatives, or other job development or restructuring strategies that result in job responsibilities being customized and individually negotiated to fit the needs of individuals with a disability.

WorkFirst Customized Employment:

  • Pairs a job seeker with a vocational specialist. They complete a comprehensive assessment of the job seeker’s unique talents, strengths and abilities. They discuss and prepare for employer expectations, work on interview skills, resume building, benefits planning, and the development of personal networks.
  • Provides an employment specialist who then assists the job seeker to find work.
  • Pairs the now employed individual with a job coach who supports them to master the job skills needed. As individual mastery increases, the need for a job coach lessens allowing a person to work on their own with support as needed.
