Shannon Blackstone- Speech-Language Pathologist

S. Blackstone

Shannon Blackstone, MA, CCC-SLP is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina. She has a Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Originally from Florida, She loved South Carolina so much that she decided not to leave! Shannon has been providing speech, language, and feeding therapy to the children of the low country for over 3 years. She has experience in private practice, public schools, pediatric out-patient rehab, and home-based therapy. She loves collaborating with families to help make the most progress with her clients. She has experience with a variety of disabilities and disorders but is always looking for opportunities to learn more information to pass on to her clients and families.

Ashley Hudson - Speech-Language Pathologist

A. Hudson

Ashley Hudson, a graduate Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.  She worked in a private practice setting serving children from birth to twenty-one years of age before starting with Easter Seals.  She has experience working with a variety of different disabilities, which include: ADHD, Articulation/Phonology deficits, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Sensory Integration Disorder, Stroke, Stuttering, Traumatic Brain Injury, Expressive and Receptive Language Disorder, and Spina Bifida. 




Mary Purhamus - Speech-Language Pathologist

Mary Purhamus is a Speech-Language Pathologist who grew up in Hyde Park, NY, and attended graduate school at the State University of New York at New Paltz. She received her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and completed her clinical fellowship year in NY at Abilities First School and Clinic.  Following graduate school, Mary practiced Speech Pathology in multiple settings in NY, including public and private schools, pre-schools, private clinics, rehabilitation units, adult day centers, early intervention, and hospital settings. She moved to the Charleston area in 2009. Her professional interests include feeding, swallowing, and oral motor disorders, sensory integration disorders, language delays, augmentative communication, and autism.

Valerie McHenry- Speech-Language Pathologist

Valerie McHenry, M.S., CCC-SLP holds a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Loyola University in Maryland.  For the past 17 years, she has worked almost exclusively with children and young adults (birth-21) in a variety of settings (home, school, and community).  Valerie has extensive experience working with children with a variety of disabilities including Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Cerebral Palsy.  As a school-based SLP, she provided services to children with needs in the areas of Receptive/Expressive Language, Articulation, Word Retrieval, Fluency, Voice, and Pragmatic Language.  She enjoyed collaborating with other disciplines, including Assistive Technology, to plan and implement the best programs for her students.  Valerie is excited to join the Easterseals family, return to Early Intervention, and have the opportunity to provide therapy and training to children and their families here in the Low Country.

Mariam Chinn- Occupational Therapist

M. Chinn

Mariam Chinn, M.S, OTR/L is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University (MCV) in Richmond, VA. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. She has treated children in the early intervention, school and outpatient settings addressing a variety of needs including sensory processing, coordination, muscle tone, attention, and others. Mariam has been trained in the SOS approach to feeding. Mariam uses the coaching model to meet families where they are and come alongside to provide practical strategies to address their child’s needs. In addition to her professional experience, she has had personal experience as the parent of a 24 ½ week micro-preemie. This experience has given her a unique understanding of the families she serves. Mariam enjoys volunteering with Surfer’s Healing and loves spending time outside with her family. She loves music and plays many different  hand drums.

Brittany Warmer- Occupational Therapist

I attended the University of South Carolina where I completed my undergraduate coursework majoring in Exercise Science. I graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina with a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Science with an emphasis in Occupational Therapy in 2002. I have worked with both adults and children, but my first love has always been working with children. I have 14 years’ experience in pediatrics which includes working in the school-based setting, outpatient and providing Early Intervention to a variety of children, including those with Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, and sensory processing disorder. I enjoy working with children of all ages and helping them to achieve their goals and reach their fullest potential.

Charlene Durham- Physical Therapist

Charlene obtained her Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2002 and most recently furthered her education by obtaining her post-professional transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St Augustine in 2019. Since 2002, Charlene has worked as a pediatric physical therapist both in the early intervention and clinic settings and has always enjoyed the birth to 3-year-old population with a special interest in torticollis, plagiocephaly, and developmental issues related to extremely preterm babies. Prior to working for Easterseals of South Carolina, Charlene was co-owner of a pediatric therapy practice in North Charleston. After 13 years of building a successful practice, she and her business partner decided to sell it in order for each to move on to other ventures, and they did so in June 2017. After taking some time to spend with her family and obtain her doctorate degree, she joined the Easterseals family and has enjoyed her return to early intervention and building relationships with patients and their families.

In addition to being a PT, Charlene is also a figure skating coach and currently works with skaters of all ages and levels here locally at the Carolina Ice Palace. She herself is a figure skater and grew up in Canada where she spent many years competing, and later traveling worldwide as a professional figure skater with various ice shows. Charleston has been her home now for over 20 years. When not seeing patients or teaching skating, she spends time with her daughter and their horse, Harper.

Brancie Meadows- Speech-Language Pathologist  

B. Meadows

Brancie Meadows, MS, CCC-SLP grew up in Huntington, West Virginia. She has her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Communication Disorders, as well as her Master’s degree in Communication Disorders from Marshall University. She completed her clinical fellowship year in Jasper County, South Carolina at Ridgeland Elementary School working with ages 3-19 and then moved to work in Berkeley County school district prior to joining the Easterseals team. She has served a variety of disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Down Syndrome, Articulation/Phonological Disorders, Expressive and Receptive Language Disorders, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake, Dysphagia, stroke, Cerebral Palsy, and Sensory Integration Disorders. She enjoys collaborating with her patient’s families and other team members to gain more knowledge and provide the best care possible.
