What The Walk is All About!
Walk With Me is an opportunity for anyone and everyone to walk -- or support a walker -- and raise funds for Easter Seals.
Easter Seals services help people learn to walk, talk and perform other skills essential to daily living; find fulfilling jobs; reach individualized goals early in life; age with dignity; and participate in camping and recreation programs.
Why am I walking?
It's that time again! As you know, for the past eight years I've been a volunteer for Easter Seals Disability Services, a great organization. As a reminder, they provide services to children and adults with disabilities and their families. Some organizations are about funding research, Easter Seals Disability Services is all about helping people on a day-to-day basis.
Services for people with autism continues to be a a major initiative. I serve on the board of the Southern California affilate. They are focusing on transition services for young adults. This helps young adults find their way after high school is over. The services include training for jobs or helping people start their own businesses. Older adults have traditionally spent the day in an adult center, doing crafts or going on outings in the community. ESDS is helping them transition into the workforce. ESDS is also helping people transition from institutional living to living in a home or apartment and having the services they need to live more independently.
From my work on the national board I'm seeing Easter Seals affilates around the country helping children with autism with early intervention services. We also have an initiative to help returning veterans who have Traumatic Brain Injuries and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Your contribution to helping this organization do the great work it does for those with disabilities is greatly appreciated.
If you'd like to join us when we walk, please sign up to be on the Platt Family team and we'll see you on September 20th at the Santa Ana Zoo! Thank you!!
