Kansas City, Mo., Resident Elected to Easter Seals National Board of Directors (Washington, October 16, 2005) -- Today, Easter Seals elected Kansas City lawyer, Edward Spalty, a partner at Armstrong Teasdale LLP, to Easter Seals National Board of Directors during its national convention currently being held in Washington, D.C. “We thank Ed Spalty for the many years he’s committed to Easter Seals -- to helping make his community, and others across the country, a better place for people living with disabilities,” said Lou Lowenkron, Chairman, Easter Seals National Board of Directors. “His involvement with Easter Seals makes a real difference for children and adults with disabilities.” A dedicated Easter Seals volunteer since 1985, Spalty has been involved at the regional, state and national levels. Locally, he has served on the regional board of Easter Seals Kansas City since 1985, been a member of Easter Seals Missouri’s board since 1986, organized the Armstrong Teasdale Challenge for Easter Seals, and served as chairman of Easter Seals Telethon VIP Panel. On the national level, Mr. Spalty’s service on the board began in 1994 with subsequent re-elections in 1997, 2000, 2002, and now, newly elected in 2005 as the board treasurer. He will also serve as chairman of the Fiscal and Board Nominating Committees, and members of the Executive, Pension, and House Nominating Committees. Easter Seals is just one organization that Spalty lends his time and talents to, actively participating in numerous local community activities and professional organizations. With more than 30 years experience in civil and commercial litigation, and further specialization in franchising, he has also written numerous articles of professional interest in the areas of trial work and franchising. Spalty earned a bachelor's degree at Emory University in Atlanta and a law degree at Columbia University School of Law in New York City. For 85 years, Easter Seals has been providing services that help children and adults with disabilities gain greater independence. Our primary services -- medical rehabilitation, job training and employment, child care, adult day centers, and camping and recreation -- benefit more than 1 million individuals with disabilities and their families each year through more than 550 centers nationwide.
