BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review physicians referral and patient's medical condition and records to determine the therapy required.
  • Performs physical therapy evaluations and write treatment plans.
  • Tests and measures ROM strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, transfers, gait, special test, sensation, reflexes, gross and fine motor skills.
  • Delivers Therapy Services in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Administers modalities in a safe and effective manner such as traction, electrical stimulation and ultrasound.
  • Administers massage, mobilization techniques and manual stretching as needed.
  • Records treatment, response and progress in patient chart.
  • Confers with physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of patient care.
  • Evaluates the effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Instructs and educate patient in prevention of further injury.
  • Instructs patient and families in therapeutic exercises assess and facilitate age appropriate gross and fine motor skills.
  • Instructs patient and/or family in treatment procedures to be done at home.
  • Evaluates fit and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommend modifications to orthotics as needed.
  • Instructs and assists the patient in gait with an assistive device, orthotics and prosthetics.
  • Provides a wheelchair evaluation when needed, as well as an evaluation of physical therapy equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of a program of physical therapy approved by both the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association and the American Therapy Association, or the equivalent, and licensed by the State of Florida.
  • Current Florida Physical Therapist License.
  • National Board Certification preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Alternatively, desire to work with developmentally disabled adults in day treatment programs, or group homes.

  • Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with other employees, clients and their families, and other customers of the Center.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with customers, suppliers, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Work independently and use good judgment.

  • Computer knowledge including word processing.
  • Knowledge about agency services, programs, policies and standards.
