Sam's Challenge Film Description
Film Description: The film has an edgy, MTV feel and has a punk rock song in the background. It is narrated by 20-year-old Sam, an Easter Seals client who uses a Dynavox to speak. Sam explains a bit about himself, and his personal fundraising campaign for Easter Seals. Film Transcript: Sam: My name is Sam. And you could say I like challenge. I had a traumatic birth and I didn't receive oxygen for several minutes. Later, I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy has changed my family's life and mine in many ways. I have to problem-solve basic tasks and I have spent all of my life perfecting the skills that others take for granted. In doing so, I have developed a persistent attitude that touches every aspect of my life. I've been going to Easter Seals for about 19 years. There I learned to use technology to help me meet life's challenges and get out there and do what I want to do. I use assistive technology as a keyboard for my computer...and even as a remote for electronics live the TV or microwave. But most importantly, it's given me a voice. Now I can express myself, talk on the phone, even order a pizza. My friends don't have to guess what I am saying anymore, and I must say girls love it! Last year, I headed off to college. Even though I'm far from home, I know Easter Seals will always be there for me and I will always be there for Easter Seals. So I set a new challenge for myself…and I'm doing it for the thousands of other people who could also benefit from Easter Seals. I started my own campaign to raise $50,000 for Easter Seals so they can help others live more independently like me. MassMutual, a friend of Easter Seals, has been the first to sign up for my campaign. They will match, dollar-for-dollar every penny I raise up to $50,000. Sure it's a lot of money, but I'm up for a challenge. How about you? |
