Building Resilience: Mental Health Services for Children and Adults 

In today's world, there is a growing recognition of the importance of mental health and its impact on overall well-being. More people understand that mental health challenges are common and can affect anyone, leading to an increased demand for resources and support. 

Adults with disabilities experience mental health challenges at a rate 5 times as often as adults without disabilities (CDC). Through our work in serving communities nationwide, Easterseals understands that supporting mental health is essential for achieving your most important goals. 

To support children, we provide families with resources to create a nurturing and stable home environment. Children can learn how to connect with others through peer groups and recreational camps. Our programs teach children skills and coping strategies to better understand emotions and navigate challenges. 

We acknowledge how mental health affects adults’ education, employment, and overall health, so we pay close attention to what may best support someone in their journey. We connect adults with peer groups, crisis assistance, recreation, and respite programs to help manage stress. We refer and provide aid for veterans adjusting to civilian life and facing mental health challenges. We also offer caregivers resources to support themselves so they can be there for their loved ones. 

Combating Isolation 

Isolation impacts mental health. Research has shown that people with disabilities experience loneliness to a greater extent than those without disabilities (PubMed). At Easterseals, we address barriers that lead to isolation, such as lack of accessible transportation and the need for safe, welcoming, and accessible community spaces where everyone feels like they belong: 

• Our transportation services connect people to their communities, from local transportation at Easterseals locations, to national advocacy for creating accessible airlines. We help to bridge the gap between what resources are readily available.  
• ES Gaming, powered by Easterseals, is an online community for disabled and nondisabled gamers to come together for gaming and conversation. With a growing Discord community and fun, online events throughout the year, ES Gaming exists to deliver an inclusive, welcoming space for all.
