Residents Make Strides Toward Health and Wellness

BHS Wellness Tree Montage

Residents of Easterseals NJ's Behavioral Health Services in Monmouth County were recently introduced to the principles of health and wellness that Easterseals NJ integrates into all its programs. These principles are designed to provide tools for our participants, their caregivers, and our staff to make healthy lifestyle choices. The goal is to achieve and maintain optimal physical, mental and emotional health, and increase longevity through proper nutrition, hydration and a balance of rest and physical activity.

Their weekly house meetings now include a wellness agenda item and they've begun using a “Wellness Tree where the residents write a wellness goal on a leaf of the tree and work towards the completion of that goal for a week. The Behavioral Health Services nursing staff are also teaching a diabetes education curriculum to individual residents to help them manage diabetes and prevent pre-diabetic conditions utilizing glucometers to teach blood glucose control.
