Mary Ellen’s Tears of Joy

MaryEllen

Mary Ellen was referred to Easter Seals Outreach Services by Warren County Social Services because of a recent divorce which left her homeless and depressed while battling intensified symptoms of her Multiple Sclerosis due to the added stress of her circumstances.

Immediately her Easter Seals case manager began assisting Mary Ellen with identifying goals such as housing, financial, and physical health linkages which would allow her to prosper. She was admitted to an Easter Seals residence for a short-term stay while waiting to be established with financial assistance, a housing voucher, and on-going physical and mental health treatment. Within a few weeks, Mary Ellen embarked on the search for an apartment and the start of a new and independent life.

“Andrea was extremely wonderful and passionate about assisting me. She made me feel like family and as though I was the only person she was working with,” says MaryEllen. “I am in my new apartment and able to breathe for the first time. I am forever grateful to Andrea and Easter Seals New Jersey for all their hard work that allowed me to obtain an apartment and feel safe again.”

Mary Ellen even took the time to write a thank you letter to the staff of the Easter Seals group home where she stayed in the interim.

This past summer, Andrea met with Mary Ellen in her new apartment and shared some tears of joy!
