Northern Career Pathways provides opportunities for individuals with hearing loss to enter the workforce and obtain sustainable employment. Our program is run by staff who are proficient in American Sign Language, skilled in identifying work place accommodations, trained in assistive technologies, and knowledgeable in resources for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Our services include:
Pre-Employment Transition Services: Develop work readiness skills and promote advocacy awareness for students (ages 16-24) transitioning into
work. Tour community colleges and connect with college counselors. Engage in job site tours to observe industry specific opportunities.
Vocational Assessments: Determines skills, abilities, and potential to reach a reasonable vocational goal that is a best fit for participants.
Job Readiness Training: Teaches participants effective resume development writing, interviewing techniques, job-development, follow-up
skills, self advocacy, and the ability to be an active part of a job club.
Job Placement: Provides assistance and strategies in finding job leads and a job match that is a best fit for the participants.
Job Coaching: Provides on-the-job training support, assistive technology education, and integrates reasonable accommodations to ensure successful employment.
Assistive Technology Demonstrations: Discover and understand what devices are available to make your home and workplace accessible for you or other individuals with hearing loss.
Q. I’m looking for work, can you help me?
A. We receive our referrals from the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS). First you must contact your local DVRS office to open a case and check your eligibility and request Easterseals Northern Career Pathways as your Employment Agency.
Q. What areas do you provide services?
A. We provide services in Sussex, Morris, Passaic, Warren, Bergen, Hudson, and Essex Counties.
Q. I don’t know what I want to do for work, can you help me?
A. Yes, one of our services is Vocational Assessments where we do a series of testing to determine skills, abilities, and interests, which will result in a potential work goal that best fits you!
Q. I’m not very good at interviewing, can you help?
A. During our job readiness phase an Employment Specialist will help build your interviewing skills by going over questions, interview scenarios, watch informative videos, and do mock interviews.
Q. I don’t know what to wear for an interview, can you help?
A. An Employment Specialist will go over appropriate interview attire. Should you need interview clothes we can also assist with interview outfits from our “Career Closet”.
Q. When I find a job, can I only work week days, and not weekends?
A. We encourage everyone to keep their availability flexible because this is more favorable to employers.
Q. What happens after I get a job?
A. We offer long term follow-along support to help you maintain successful employment for as long as you need it.
Q. I want to learn more about assistive technology devices (ATD), where can I get more information.
