Manchester, NH - Twenty-one Easterseals supervisors and managers have completed an intensive, six-month program in leadership, offered through the nationally-ranked leadership program at Granite State College. This is the second group of Easterseals staff that has completed this course.

"Professionals in the nonprofit sector who have the capacity and desire to hone their leadership skills often face limited opportunities for professional development due to lean budgets," explained Larry J. Gammon, Easterseals President & CEO. "By working with Granite State College, we were able to deliver a comprehensive leadership development program to our employees that will help them grow as professionals, and position them to support the organization at a higher level."

The Leadership Academy that Granite State College developed for Easterseals consisted of six face-to-face sessions and weekly online studies.

"The partnership between Granite State College and the Easter Seals embodies the vision of our graduate programs," said Dr. Johnna Herrick-Phelps, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at Granite State College.

She adds, "Our programs are built to be relevant to working professionals, which students appreciate. On a statewide-level, what these programs accomplish is a more educated workforce that can rise to the leadership challenges presented by our complex and constantly evolving economy, which is something that employers value. Through our work with Easterseals, we got to experience the positive impact for both the employer and the employee, which makes us incredibly proud."

One of those impacted is Easterseals Military & Veterans Services Director Stephanie Higgs.

"Leadership Academy gave me the opportunity to forge new (and shore up existing) relationships with other managers at Easterseals, while I was developing (and honing) effective leadership qualities that were immediately applicable in my job," said Higgs. "Through a blend of introspective self-assessments, team projects and exercises, and participative classes, I have strengthened my management skill set. This is a great opportunity for professional and personal growth!"

On May 24, 2017, the 21 participants were honored for their completion of the Leadership Academy in a private ceremony at the Granite State College Concord campus.
