In-store campaign and free crafting event supports Easter Seals’ Make the First Five Count® Initiative
This spring, there is an easy and crafty way to ensure all children have the right tools to succeed in the earliest years of life. For the seventh consecutive year, A.C. Moore craft stores are teaming up with Easter Seals’ Make the First Five Count ® to support child wellness, growth, and happiness through the first five years of development. Consumers visiting participating A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts stores between March 13th and April 9th will have the opportunity to donate $1 to Easter Seals at checkout. Funds raised will support Easter Seals’ Make the First Five Count initiative, which offers parents access to a free online screening tool to monitor their child’s development. Since launching the campaign in 2010, A.C. Moore customers and store team members have raised nearly $730,000 for Easter Seals.
“We know that the first five years of life are critical in a child’s development and long-term success,” said Katy Neas, Executive Vice President, Easter Seals. “Because children learn and grow at different rates, even the most attentive parents can miss some important milestones. Our free online screening tool helps meet children where they are and identifies the specific skills they need to succeed at every age.
So far, Easter Seals and A.C. Moore have helped over 50,000 parents, grandparents and other loved ones take the next step in ensuring their child’s wellness.
In addition to the in-store campaign, families will be able to test out their crafting skills by participating in a Make ‘N Take event at more than 140 A.C. Moore Stores on Saturday, March 19th, from 1-3 PM. Sponsored by A.C. Moore and CraZart, the free Make ‘N Take event invites shoppers to design a ModelLite edition of the Make the First Five Count penguin character which exemplifies the importance of play in a young child’s life.
“As a company deeply involved in our local communities, A.C. Moore shares Easter Seals’ commitment to giving our nation’s young children the best possible start in life so they can reach for – and realize – their potential,” said Pepe Piperno. chairman of A.C. Moore. “We are honored to continually support such a wonderful organization, giving customers of all ages the opportunity to express their creativity, while raising awareness and critically important funds to help children living with autism and other disabilities and their families.”
Why A.C. Moore and Easter Seals
Together, A.C. Moore and Easter Seals are igniting a movement designed to unite all parents and children through craft and cause. Easter Seals has walked alongside parents and families for almost 100 years. We know that the first five years of a child’s life are the most critical ones for development, so it important to us that families receive proper knowledge, support, and care as they lay the foundation for their child’s long term skill and success.
Crafting connects, says Neas: “Not only are crafts an enjoyable activity for children, simple crafting can also help children learn important skills that affect their overall development. Crafting is just one of the ways parents can observe their children’s developmental progress.”
