Easter Seals Senior Vice President for Government Relations, Katy Beh Neas, today issued the following statement on the U.S. Senate’s approval (95-3) of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (H.R. 803), legislation to update America’s workforce and job training system, including employment programs to help individuals with disabilities enter or reenter the workforce. Easter Seals is a leading national provider of job training and employment services for people with disabilities, veterans and older adults. Easter Seals helps 80,000 jobseekers annually develop the skills and experience needed to find jobs and succeed in the workplace.

“The United States Senate took a significant step forward today in helping to improve the employment situation for people with disabilities by overwhelmingly approving the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. The Easter Seals-supported bill updates our job training system and will help to ensure individuals with disabilities have access to the employment services and supports they need to be successful in the workforce.

Easter Seals especially thanks Senators Harkin, Alexander, Murray and Isakson, along with their staffs, for crafting a bipartisan compromise with the U.S. House of Representatives that strengthens our nation’s workforce development system by better preparing jobseekers with relevant skills needed by businesses. Easter Seals urges the U.S. House to promptly consider and approve this important legislation.
