Ke'Dren: Staying Active and Motivated

From the moment you sit down with Ke’Dren, you can tell he is highly motivated and outgoing, the kind of person you want to be around because their drive is contagious. Ke’Dren is a Fort Wayne native, “born and raised,” and he is proud to represent the area. He attended North Side High School, and he has been participating in Easterseals Arc programs for nearly five years.

Ke’Dren says his goals include getting his first job, staying healthy, and continuing to live an active lifestyle. In order to achieve these goals he is involved in a variety of activities. He performs with the choir, creates art, and plays on the Arc Raiders basketball team, which is one of his favorite pastimes. When it comes to basketball he says his favorite two players are Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook; they’re his role models, and he believes that his playing style is similar to Anthony’s.

Ke’Dren has accomplished a lot since coming to Easterseals Arc. He says staff have allowed him to be creative and constantly give him the inspiration to create art, such as his self-portrait that was featured in Wunderkammer Company’s “Big Show.”  On top of staying busy with sports and art, Ke’Dren also volunteers at Lutheran Life Villages, where he typically helps out with landscaping.

When asked about Easterseals Arc activities, he mentions going to Junior Achievement’s BizTown, a simulated town where participants are assigned jobs. Participants must complete their job duties to earn their paycheck, and then at the end of the day they are free to spend their money as they please at the various stores. Ke’Dren says he was assigned the role of CFO of the city, and his job was to write the paychecks for everyone. Ke’Dren says it was one of his favorite outings so far this year, and it inspired him to go out and look for a job of his own.

Whether playing basketball, creating art, or volunteering, Ke’Dren displays a willingness to help others. This helpful spirit paired with his drive should help him land that job he is searching for in no time.
