Easterseals serves as the Deaf Service Center for our community, one of only 12 such regional centers in Florida.
Easterseals Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services is dedicated to providing the following resources and services for individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing:
Information and referral
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services connects walk-in clients, telephone/TTY and videophone queries with most current resources and information to assist the Deaf and hard of hearing as they live, learn, work and play in our communities.
Easterseals Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services also provides guest speakers for community events, civic groups and businesses. Contact us to learn more.
Easterseals Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services provides qualified interpreters for such needs as:
• Medical appointments and related circumstances
• Personal situations and communication
• Classes, seminars or vocational training
• Business activities and transactions
Advocacy and education
Easterseals Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services assists individuals with self-advocacy and is active in public policy efforts. Easterseals offers educational seminars on Deaf culture and bridging the communication gap for providers, law enforcement agencies and business.
We train the Deaf, hard of hearing and the community how to use the latest assistive technology. We also provide access to video phones at no charge for individuals who are living with deafness or are hard of hearing.
Easterseals Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services offers American Sign Language (ASL) classes to the public. Eight-week sessions are held periodically throughout the community, and are suitable for beginners and skill-builders at all levels.
Florida Telecommunications Relay, Inc.
Easterseals Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services is the authorized regional distribution center for Florida Telecommunications Relay, Inc. (FTRI) phones and equipment, which are provided at no charge for qualified individuals.
Through FTRI phones and related specialized equipment, clients discover the freedom and independence of communication, giving them confidence to reach their fullest potential in every area their lives.
