Independent Living Program

ILP

Easterseals Massachusetts has a contract with the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) Independent Living Division to provide assistive technology equipment and training for individuals with severe disabilities in greater Boston, Northeast and Central Massachusetts.

This program offers assistive technology services that will enable individuals to live more independently in their homes.  Assistive technology may include computer technology, voice output communication aids or electronic aids to daily living.

In order to qualify for this program, individuals must meet the following conditions:

  • Fill out the form, scan, and send to the email address listed in the form respective to the category of service being requested

Individuals who are 22 or younger must not have an educational goal that would make them eligible to receive assistive technology services through their school department.

In addition, individuals must not be eligible to receive assistive technology services from other Executive Office of Health and Human Services agencies, such as the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, the Department of Mental Health, the Department of Mental Retardation or the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

The needs of all eligible individuals will be assessed.  Proof of financial need may be required before equipment and training are provided. Some individuals may be required to pay for recommended equipment.

People who meet these criteria are eligible for MRC assistive technology services and will be assigned to a priority category. Easter Seals MA will conduct assessments in order of priority and will provide services first for those in Priority One.  If funds remain available, Easter Seals MA will address the needs of the next priority categories, in order.

*Substantial disability means that the disabling condition(s) results in the individual’s inability to perform more than one Major Life Activity without assistance.  Major life activities are defined as: seeing, hearing, speaking, walking, breathing, performing manual tasks, learning, caring for oneself or working.
