Loan Programs Open the Door to Equal Opportunities

The Massachusetts Alternative Finance Program improves the independence and quality of life of residents with disabilities through loan opportunities for acquiring assistive technology devices and services.

The goal of the program is to provide equal opportunities for people with disabilities to live more independently. Many different items are considered assistive technology, including:

  • Hearing Aids
  • Computers
  • Flashing doorbells
  • Electric wheelchairs or scooters
  • Adapted vehicles
  • Home modifications such as portable ramps or stair lifts

  • There are three types of loans:

Long-Term Device Loans: For low-income Massachusetts residents with disabilities, the Long Term Device Loan Program provides free long-term loans of assistive technology devices costing less than $500.

Mini Loans: For Massachusetts residents with disabilities, the Mini Loan Program provides zero-interest loans of $100 to $2,000 for the purchase of assistive technology products and services.

Financial Loans: For Massachusetts residents with disabilities, the Financial Loan Program provides low, 3.75% interest rate loans for the purchase of assistive technology products and services including vehicles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, and vision assistance technology over $2,000.

Individuals with disabilities and family members are encouraged to apply. The Massachusetts Alternative Finance Program is provided in partnership with The Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC).
