Combatting the Terrible Twos course description:

The focus of this seminar will be on first understanding appropriate expectations for behavior and communication in youth ages 0-3. Emphasis will be on exploring many different factors that may be associated with an increase in negative behaviors, whether of an environmental or intrinsic nature. The presentation will also focus on research-based, accessible ways to reduce negative behaviors at home and in other situations.

Learning objectives:
· Discuss behavioral expectation in young children ages 0-3
· Provide an overview for various factors that may increase negative behaviors
· Explain targeted, research-based interventions to decrease negative behaviors and improve communication

Combatting the Nighttime Blues course description:

The focus of this presentation is to address relevant factors related to sleep in children ages 0-3. Initial emphasis will be placed on fully understanding milestones and other sleep factors in this age. The talk will also focus on understanding critical factors that are needed for good sleep hygiene. Finally, the talk will concentrate on specific, empirically-based interventions to address specific sleep problems as they arise.

Learning objectives:
· Discuss a broad range of pediatric sleep issues and childhood conditions in children 0-3
· Provide critical sleep hygiene information to allow for quality sleep
· Provide interventions to address specific sleep difficulties


About the presenter:

Dr. Jim Schroeder is a licensed psychologist specializing in children and families. Dr. Schroeder graduated from Ball State University with his BS in Psychology and received his Ph.D. from Saint Louis University. He completed his internship at Kosair Children’s Hospital/University of Louisville, School of Medicine before doing a postdoctoral fellowship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine. After completing his licensure, he worked as a pediatric psychologist at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital/St. Louis University School of Medicine until starting his current position at St. Mary’s Center for Children in September 2008. Jim lives with his wife, Amy, and six children in Evansville.  He is the author of three books entitled, Wholiness:  The Unified Pursuit of Health, Harmony, Happiness, and Heaven, Into the Rising Sun, and 40 Days of Hopeful Prayer. He writes a monthly column for parents and professionals entitled “Just Thinking”, which can be found at the following web address:  www.stmarys.org/articles. Dr. Schroeder’s books will be available for purchase at the seminar.

The Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center is a state approved provider of CEUs for Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and Psychologists. This course will offer 3.0 hours of instruction. Participants will be given a Certificate of Attendance at the conclusion of the seminar. CEUs will be included on the certificate.
