Managed Care Organization Q and A

December 11, 2015

How do I find out which Managed Care Organization (MCO) I’ve been assigned to?
You should have received in the mail an enrollment letter stating which MCO you were assigned to.  If you have not received a letter, contact Iowa Medicaid Member Services at 1-800-338-8366 or their local number at 515-256-4606. If you are experiencing any difficultly with this, contact your Easter Seals Iowa Case Manager or the Easter Seals Iowa Case Management Department at 515-309-1300.

How do I know if I should stay with the MCO I was assigned to?
Check with all of your Medicaid-paid providers about which MCOs they are contracting with.  Medicaid-paid providers include, but are not limited to, HBCS Waiver service providers, Case Managers, doctors and specialists, pharmacy, and mental health professionals.

Once you know which providers are contracting with which MCOs, you can decide which MCO makes the most sense for you.  MCO websites have provider lists showing which providers have already contracted with them; these lists are not comprehensive and are being updated regularly. If you are experiencing any difficulty with this, contact your Easter Seals Iowa Case Manager or the Easter Seals Iowa Case Management Department at 515-309-1300.

What should I do if my providers aren’t contracted with the MCO I was assigned to?
Check with your providers to see which MCOs they plan on contracting with.  Some providers are still in the process of contracting.  If your providers have decided not to contract with your MCO, you have the option to change providers or change MCOs. Members must decide which MCO to be enrolled with by March 17, 2016, for coverage beginning April 1, 2016.

What should I do if I want to stay with the MCO I was assigned to?
You do not need to do anything at this time in order to stay with the MCO to which you were assigned.

How do I change my MCO?
You can change your MCO in several ways:
• Contact Iowa Medicaid Member Services at 1-800-338-8366.
• Complete the enrollment form included in the packet and return it using the postage-paid return envelope.
• Complete the enrollment form and email it to Iowa Medicaid Member Services at imememberservices@dhs.state.ia.us.
• Members must decide which MCO to be enrolled with by March 17, 2016, for coverage beginning April 1, 2016.

What is the deadline for changing my MCO?
You can change your MCO for any reason through June 16, 2016.  If no change is made, you will be enrolled with the MCO to which you were assigned. After June 16, 2016, you can change your MCO for reasons of good cause.  Additionally, there will be a time once per year when you can change your MCO for any reason.
