Judiciary Committee: Oppose the ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017

Dear Representative:

Easterseals—a leading nonprofit organization that helps individuals with disabilities reach their potential and succeed in their communities—asks that you VOTE AGAINST the ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017 (H.R. 620).

Easterseals was an original supporter of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). The bipartisan legislation was carefully crafted to balance the civil rights of people with disabilities with the practical needs of businesses. The individuals and families Easterseals serve throughout the country have greatly benefited from the rights, protections, and access to new opportunities available through the ADA.

Unfortunately, H.R. 620 would significantly weaken the civil rights of people with disabilities. Under H.R. 620, people with disabilities would lose their recourse to fight discrimination for 180 days. This policy is inconsistent with the values established in our Constitution, where all people must be afforded equal opportunity to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Please oppose H.R. 620, the ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017. Thank you for considering our views.

Sincerely,

Katy Beh Neas
Executive Vice President, Public Affairs
