YouthBuild, a national program supported by the Department of Labor, provides disadvantaged youth with academic instruction, dedicated case-management support and practical, credentialed training and placement opportunities in the construction trade–one of the most in-demand industries locally.

Easterseals’ local implementation of the YouthBuild program allows youth to rehabilitate dilapidated properties as part of their practical training, properties that will eventually be sold to low-income families interested in long-term ownership. Current participants are renovating a property in the Evanston community that Easterseals acquired through partnership with the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority. Easterseals will reinvest any income from the sale of the renovated property into additional sites for the program, ensuring future opportunities that benefit both youth and the community.

Funding from the Spirit of Construction Foundation will support the essential material costs and indirect expenses that are invaluable to the program. In addition, a partnership with the Foundation will connect Easterseals to over 100 caring, engaged businesses that are committed to making the program a success, and to helping individuals find employment in the construction industries.

“YouthBuild simply would not exist locally without the critical funding support of our community partners,” says Easterseals President and CEO Pam Green. “We are deeply grateful to the Spirit of Construction Foundation for their partnership, and we are so excited to work together to ensure these promising individuals receive the training and support they need to overcome the substantial barriers they are facing in their journey to academic and professional success.”
