Columbus, OH, March 22, 2017

advocacy day 2017

Five Easterseals affiliates serving Ohio, including Easterseals serving Greater Cincinnati, met with their local representatives on Tuesday, March 21 as part of Easterseals Advocacy Day at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.

The event kicked off with an Award Luncheon, which included a presentation from each Ohio Easterseals affiliate, inspiring speeches from a family that Easterseals had helped, and an award ceremony for the Easterseals Rays of Hope Award. This award was given to Senator Peggy Lehner of the 6th Ohio Senate District and to State Representative Dorothy Pelanda from the 86th House District.

At the luncheon, Pam Green, President & CEO of Easterseals serving Greater Cincinnati introduced the official Easterseals legislative priorities for 2017. She described the need for increased home and community based services, Medicaid expansion, veteran programs, adult day centers, personnel/staffing issues for providers, and removing barriers so that all persons can live, learn, work and play in their communities.

“Since its founding in 1919, Easterseals has been leading the way in advocacy for community inclusion for people with disabilities,” she stated after the luncheon. “As our knowledge and awareness of disability has changed over the years, our methods of support and care must change as well. We appreciate the opportunity to have this vital discussion with our state officials.”

Personnel from Easterseals serving Greater Cincinnati met with the offices of Representative William Seitz, Representative Jonathan Dever, Speaker Cliff Rosenberger, Senator William Coley, Senator Louis Terhar, and Senator Cecil Thomas.

Five Easterseals affiliates partnered on this event at the Ohio Statehouse to advocate for the rights and needs of Ohioans they serve, including people with disabilities, people facing disadvantages, and veterans. The five affiliates were: Easterseals Central and Southeast Ohio, Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley, Easterseals of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties, Easterseals Northern Ohio, and Easterseals serving Greater Cincinnati.
