What is s.a.f.e.t.y. first: Working together for safer communities?
It's Easterseals response to the events of September 2001, when we learned that we weren't prepared to deal with issues of our own personal safety — especially the needs of people with disabilities in the workplace.
It's a community-based effort to help everyone, especially individuals with disabilities, plan and prepare for personal safety in emergencies, with planning tools and resources for people with disabilities, employers, building owners and managers, community and government leaders, and fire and police professionals.
It's the next step in Easterseals' 50 years leading efforts to make our nation architecturally accessible so that all Americans can participate in community.
It's an opportunity to forge new understanding and friendships, to create a greater awareness of disability and disability issues, and to learn from and about one another.
It's an extension of Easterseals 85-year mission: creating solutions that change the lives of children and adults with disabilities and other special needs.
