Summer Camp

Frequently asked questions

Why are we having three separate camps if it is remote?
This will allow returning campers to interact with those they are familiar with and give new campers time to socialize and meet the campers they will be joining next summer. We understand that each camp experience is different, and we hope that returning campers will enjoy doing some familiar activities and seeing familiar faces (both campers and guest speakers), while new campers will enjoy a preview of what they can expect next summer.

How will activities be facilitated?
Our directors will have trained counselors assisting them with delivering all activities through Zoom. Using the Zoom platform, we will have the opportunity break out into smaller sessions or “rooms” within each camp when needed. Campers can be grouped with other campers of similar abilities and will allow each group to move at its own pace.

How do I know if my camper is a good fit?
All new participants will need to take part in a 15 minute intake with one of our Camp Directors. This process will help to determine if virtual camp will be a good fit for your child. We also invite you to attend one of our online Open Houses to meet the camp directors, ask questions, see samples of the activities and get an overview of how everything will work.

Who is the camp director this year?
Growing Green: Karissa Hensel will be returning for her sixth summer working at Camp Growing Green and her fourth as Camp Director. Two of Karissa’s favorite things are cacti and Crocs. When not at camp, she is a teacher in the Colonial Intermediate Unit. Karissa is looking forward to bringing Growing Green to you this year. Expect some surprise visitors and a whole lot of fun!

Camp Lily Berks: Trisha Herrera will be returning for her second summer working at Camp Lily Berks. She is a mom of six and a first grade teacher. When she is not busy with her children, she enjoys reading, attending fun fitness classes and running Easterseals Friday evening rec program, Hang Time. She is looking forward to seeing all of the returning campers and meeting new campers, and she can’t wait to share the activities she has planned.

Camp Lily Lehigh Valley: Janine Noel is originally from Vermont and moved to Pennsylvania in 2006 to attend Moravian College. She graduated in 2010 with a double major in psychology and religion. From there, she jumped into the work force and found her calling working with children on the autism spectrum. She has been working as an associate teacher since 2014. In her free time, she enjoys reading Stephen King books, going to the movies and spending time with her boyfriend, Chris. Janine is looking forward to meeting everyone, and is excited for her first year of camp!

Will supplies be provided for activities?
Easterseals will provide supply packs for each week of camp. Most of the supplies needed for an awesome camp experience will be included. Distribution will be made from 3 locations (Berks, East Stroudsburg and Lehigh Valley). A list of general household items that are helpful to have, but not necessary will be provided the week prior to the start of each session.

What kind of device do I need in order to participate?
You will need a device with a camera, speakers, internet access and a free Zoom Account. Tablets and laptops/computers work best, but a smart phone will work. If you do not have access to a device or internet, we may be able to help.  Please email camp@esep.org.

Is Zoom Secure?
Yes. Easterseals takes every effort to make sure that Zoom meetings are safe and secure. We use a HIPAA-compliant version of the Zoom platform. In addition, all sessions are password protected in private “rooms”. Parents will be provided with the link and password prior to the start of camp. If you need more information on creating a Zoom account or how to use it, trainings are available. We have been using it with our other programs with great success.
