History

When ESELM community opened in 1971, options for people with disabilities were practically non-existent. El Mirador began in the village of Alcalde, New Mexico as a small single facility operation serving three people. It has grown into a large, nationally accreddited, federally certified, state licensed agency serving more than 70 people in the Santa Fe, Espanola, and Alcalde Counties. Through the years of development, ESELM has been involved in providing an array of services and choices for people who need support and assistance to llive in their communities. Based on our organizational growth and our diversified clientele, we have developed a variety of programs and services including:

  • Community Activities
  • Individualized programs of learning
  • Supported Living
  • Supported Employement
  • Community Accessibility
  • Human Rights Advocacy
  • On December 19, 2005 Easter Seals, the leading national non-profit provider of servces for people with disabilities, welcomed Santa Maria El Mirador, (ESELM) as a non profit company that cares about people in the community. Thus it is our commitmment to provide quality programs and service for individuals and families.
