Easter Seals programs across the country provide a wide variety of interventions that help individuals of all abilities, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Children develop skills, or "milestones," at their own pace. How is your child or grandchild doing?
The goal of “Handwriting Foundations” is to improve upon skills children already use when writing. The program utilizes a multi-sensory approach for teaching writing techniques to emphasize improved sizing of letters, spacing between words/letters, alignment to the bottom line when writing, punctuation, and overall legibility of writing.
This program is designed for third graders or older students who prefer print to cursive but still need practice. Therapy activities will involve projects such as reading and writing a short story, writing jokes, creating MadLibs, grammar worksheets, etc. for practice similar to that experienced in the school.
Children at least 8 years of age who are already writing and need to improve writing skills are appropriate. Children need to be able to follow directions, know basic letter formation, hold a pencil, and attend to the therapist without direct help. Consistent attendance is an important component to success in this program as the material builds from week to week. Children will be provided with weekly homework to ensure practice at home.
