Fitness Fanatics Boot Camp

Physical fitness is the goal for everybody who wants to have sufficient strength, flexibility and endurance to play, work, and move through their day.  Poor endurance and fitness are prevalent among persons with disabilities because of their difficulty with movement and limited independence.  In Fitness Boot Camp, adolescents practice and learn how to become independent (or direct a friend to assist them) in using various pieces of fitness equipment to stretch, strengthen, and increase muscular endurance.  The exercise equipment at Contours Express is adjustable to accommodate adolescent body sizes and each machine starts at 5 pounds of resistance.

Who Should Participate?

Adolescents ages 12 and up who have weakness due to special needs or physical disabilities.  Due to the limited variety of aerobic equipment at Contours Express, participants must be able to stand and take steps on a treadmill with rails on both sides, but no other support.  All participants must be able to follow directions and carry out exercise repetitions with minimal to no physical assistance once instructed and positioned on equipment. Participants must also be able to separate easily from their guardian.
