Easterseals Celebrates Better Speech and Hearing Month

May 11, 2017

Hawthorne “Thor” Sutton was developing like other kids his age until he was 15 months old and started regressing. His mom, Maddie Carter, knew she needed to take action and quickly sought help. She found the answers she was seeking and the help Thor needed in Easterseals Early Intervention program.

Easterseals Speech Therapy services keeps children engaged so they learn while they play. Therapists, like Trish LaBonte (pictured above), enjoy watching children, like Thor, meet their milestones.

“I love, love, love Easterseals,” Maddie says. “They have been my counselors. They have helped me with the development of my child. They have given us new skills sets to help Thor learn without it being so frustrating for him.”

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month. Although more than 5 million children in the United States have a speech, language and hearing disorder, parents are often unsure about what to do when they suspect their child may be affected. Thanks to the support of Easterseals speech therapy to help Thor regain his words and continue to grow his vocabulary and occupational therapy to help with sensory differences Thor is keeping up with his friends and ready to go to preschool next year.

“Easterseals is great! They come to our house and are very accommodating,” Maddie says. “I would tell other parents in my situation not to wait. Don’t hesitate! Talk to your pediatrician. Get as much help as you and your family need. Then follow through. Take what they teach you and keep practicing it at home.”
