Easter Seals Direct Support Professional Recognized for Community Excellence

Easter Seals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore employee, Kendy Prystajko, of Camden, DE, was recently recognized as one of the top four Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in Delaware for her superlative work supporting people with disabilities. The Easter Seals employee, who works as a Supported Employment Specialist based out Dover, was nominated by her supervisor and honored at an annual event sponsored by the Delaware Association of Rehabilitation Facilities.

“Kendy is definitely a shining example for others to follow. Her personal commitment to persons she supports is exhibited with the highest level of integrity and results in high levels of satisfaction. Kendy is a role model that all her peers appreciate,” Diane Schilling, Prystajko’s supervisor and Developmental Disability Coordinator, said. “Her professional skills enable those she serves to be successful toward their goal of competitive employment. Kendy has an energetic personality that is contagious to be around.”

Direct Support Professionals are the people who work as direct care workers, in-home support workers, and personal attendants to ensure that people with disabilities are able to live and work more independently and in community settings. Prystajko and her fellow honorees were selected by an independent committee brought together in celebration of “National Direct Support Professional's Recognition Week.”

Prystajko, received the “Community Excellence” award which recognizes a DSP who works as a support person for people with disabilities. This person has distinguished herself as someone who consistently treats the people she supports with dignity and respect and does so with a level of tact and diplomacy which sets them apart from others in the field. “After being around Kendy, she sets a very high standard to emulate which enables the best for all participants served by Easter Seals as a whole,” one of Prystajko’s peers said.
