The Assistive Technology Clinic serves the needs of children and adults throughout central and north central Illinois. Assistive Technology is any piece of equipment or product system, whether modified or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve capabilities of individuals with disabilities and/or the caregivers who work with them. Evaluation appointments are scheduled for two hours and may require more than one visit, depending upon the types of equipment required and the client’s individual needs. Efforts are also made to include input from other professionals who work with the client. Family members, a physical or occupational therapist, school personnel, and a Rehabilitation Technology Specialist (RTS) from NuMotion all provide impact into or participate in the clinic.
Following the evaluation, information is sent to the client’s funding source to obtain prior approval for purchasing the equipment. Once prior approval is received, the equipment is ordered. When the equipment arrives, it is fitted to the client by the RTS and therapist who also provide instruction on the use and care of the equipment.
Assistive Technology Clinics are held on Mondays at both the Peoria Center, 507 E. Armstrong Avenue, Peoria and the Bloomington Center, 2404 E. Empire, Bloomington. Hours are 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, call Easter Seals at 309.686.1177 or NuMotion at 309.698.3257.
