The Lorraine & George Shadid Autism Resource Center was established as a result of the couple's long term interest in Autism, and to commemorate the Easter Seals Tribute Dinner held in their honor in November 2006. The Tri-County Community Autism plan identified an Autism Resource Center as an important priority. the Center developed as an outreach program for families and professionals working with children with Autism.
The center contains a wide variety of resources including: visual supports, books, Boardmaker software program, DVDs, games, structured teaching kits, toys, computer software programs, internet access, learning aids and other materials.
The center is available for families, service providers, educators and the general community.
Many of the materials are free, and other materials are available on loan for two weeks. Advice and assistance will be available if families are interested in purchasing these items.
The goal for the center is that it will become an inclusive, one-stop, trusted resource for Autism information and referral services across the lifespan.
