Gary Kohn is the Managing Director of the Chicago office and also oversees firm-wide corporate operations and management functions. He chairs the firm’s Finance Committee and sits on the firm’s Operations and Building Technology committees, providing direction on the firm’s financial management, project delivery methods and operational processes.
Gary also serves as a Managing Principal on many of the firm’s projects. His project responsibilities include team organization and assembly; contract review and negotiations; and overall project delivery strategy and execution. His counsel and organizational expertise is instrumental at the beginning of projects, especially those with complex team structures and challenging entitlements or approvals processes. In his more than 30 years of practice he has supervised teams for numerous large-scale residential, hotel, commercial office and adaptive reuse projects nationwide. Recent projects include Loews Chicago Hotel and Residences in Chicago; The Bristol luxury condominium in West Palm Beach, Florida; 505 residential tower in Nashville, Tennessee; and the Morris Inn at the University of Notre Dame.
Prior to joining SCB, Gary worked with SOM and Lucien Lagrange Architects in Chicago. He received his Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Nebraska and holds active licenses in twenty-five states. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Chicago Committee on High-rise Buildings, the Executive Club of Chicago, and also serves as Chairman of the Wilmette Planning Commission and participates in the AIA Large Firm Roundtable.
