Morgan Meyerhuber’s son Kaleton Jones with born with some obvious differences, including two thumbs on one of his hands and a tight frenulum (that part that attaches your tongue to your mouth). His parents later learned he had a chromosomal disorder that affected his speech.

By the time he was a year, when most kids say “mom” and “dad,” he wasn’t saying anything. “He would act like he was trying to say something, but it was just babble,” Meyerhuber says. “He was frustrated by it.”
