Staff Spotlight - Larry

Larry-Susan

This month we are honored to SPOTLIGHT a long-time Easterseals team member – Larry Doan. Larry joined our team in 2008 as a one-on-one Behavior Technician, then transitioned into his current role as Director of Education Services (only a year-and-a-half later).

Larry was born and raised in the Los Angeles area, “Straight out of Compton!” as he likes to put it. He finished his Master’s in Psychology and spent the next 11 years as a family therapist, and then an additional eight years working with families and children as a social worker.  Soon after, he completed his Master’s in Theology and became a pastor at a local church.  During all of this, Larry met his wonderful wife Susan, and has enjoyed 45 years of marriage, four lovely children, and have been blessed with 10 amazing grandkids!

Outside of work, Larry enjoys gardening with Susan and surfing. Music has also played a large part in his life. Larry’s been musical ever since he was 4 years old, and in the first 7 years of his professional career he was a guitar maker. Just a few of his accomplishments in the music realm have been marching in the 100-member UCLA band, playing on stage at the Oscar Awards, recording music in an LA studio, and currently playing in a Contemporary Christian Music band.

All these experiences have given him a perspective that help him encourage and support our staff who serve children with special needs. Larry truly appreciates, and is continuously inspired by, his team with Ed Services and ESCC, “…who are an immeasurable help to me!”

“The heart of any organization can be seen through the service of its employees. Easterseals Central California is fortunate to have Larry Doan as Director of Educational Services. He serves our clients with compassion, manages our staff with sincerity, and leads our department with a willingness to improve.
