Parent and Community Training

Easterseals Central California offers two types of group parent training classes for parents of children ages 3 and up served by San Andreas Regional Center:

Behavior Modification Overview for Children Age 3 and Up:

This five- session training provides parents with a general overview of behavioral principles so as to have a foundational working knowledge of function/purpose of behaviors and understanding of the mechanism of change for any behavior. Each session will last two hours. This training series is not specific to autism; any child with challenging behaviors may benefit from a behavior modification program.

Parents will gain knowledge in the following:

  • General principals of behavior:
  • ABCs of Behavior Modification
  • Schedules of Reinforcement
  • Generalization
  • Parent involvement
  • Communication - non-verbal and verbal
  • Sensory issues and impact on behavior
  • Safety
  • Tantrum management
  • Behavioral versus educational objectives


Specific Topic Trainings for Children Age 3 and Up

These trainings provide parents with more specific information and tools to address particular behavioral issues. Each training will last two hours, but the number of sessions will vary by topic.

Parents learn about developmental issues as related to each topic below and application of behavioral principals. Parents will be expected to practice the skills at home and share their experiences with other parents.

  • Toilet Training- 3 sessions
  • Feeding- 3 sessions
  • Sleep Issues- 3 sessions
  • Reward Systems- 4 sessions

To enroll in one of the trainings, contact your San Andreas Regional Center Service Coordinator. Trainings are scheduled on an on-going basis, depending on parent interest, and are limited to a minimum of six to a maximum of twelve parents per session.
