A Year of Many Firsts

Londyn and Diana

2017 has been a year of many firsts for Londyn. Sarah, Londyn's mother, recently heard her say “bye-bye’ clearly for the first time. Londyn who has autism has been working hard with her Easterseals speech therapist, and it is paying off. “Communication has been a challenge for Londyn,” said Sarah. Londyn is also learning to communicate through an AAC device (Augmentative Alternative Communication) which looks like an iPAD. Her fine motor skills are also improving with the support of her Easterseals therapists. Londyn is using utensils to eat, beginning to dress herself and playing with friends at our developmental preschool.

Congratulations on your other firsts, Londyn! She is playing on her first t-ball team and recently climbed up a bouncy house all by herself. Because of the progress Londyn has made this year, her parents are excited to register Londyn in a modified kindergarten. Sarah said, “Our family is forever grateful for how God has Easterseals and the fabulous therapists in Londyn’s life!”

1 in 65 Arkansans are diagnosed with autism as reported by University of Arkansas Medical Sciences. Autism is a complex disorder affecting a person’s interaction and communication with others.
