More than 700,000 children and adults live with Cerebral Palsy. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that two to three children of every 1,000 born have Cerebral Palsy in the United States.
Cerebral Palsy is caused by brain injury or brain malformation that occurs before, during, or immediately after birth while the infant’s brain is under development. Every case of CP is unique to the individual and degrees of movement, muscle tone, coordination and speech vary from person to person.
At Easterseals UCP, we serve children and adults with Cerebral Palsy through a wide range of services beginning with early intervention programs to employment and training. Thanks to dedicated and experienced staff, individuals are making progress.
Little one-year-old Jacob has made big gains at the Easterseals UCP Craven-Cherry Point Child Development Center. While he has Cerebral Palsy, he doesn’t let that interfere with his life.Jacob can pull to a standing position and is learning how to walk and climb. Staff are working with Jacob to teach him how to use both hands to play and feed himself.Speech is beginning to form for this little tike too!
Small miracles happen every day at Easterseals UCP in NC & VA. We celebrate #WorldCPDay on October 6 and every day we remain dedicated to the goals of each and every child and adult with disabilities.Resources: http://ucp.org/https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/cp/data.htmlhttps://worldcpday.org/
